Well, I was serching on the head gasket topic & came across this question. I just replaced my water pump as I was losing coolant like crazy/ $225 dollars later (for the new water pump & the labor which i didn't want to monkey with myself) I am still leaking anti freeze. Best thing to do is get it into a shop & have a pressure test done. Without knowing what symptoms you are experiencing, it is tough. Also, I can tell you that the word on the street is that the 3.1L motor is prone to having head gasket issues.
Symptoms are:Loss of coolant with no apparent leak.
White smoke from the exhaust pipe.
Oil level overfull with a brownish look.
Engine overheating.
Engine miss or loss of power.
Air bubbles escaping from the radiator with cap off engine running.
Cooling system pressure test.
To replace a blown head gasket on a 1998 Chevy Lumina, it would cost between $18 and $174. This depends on the brand part and any labor costs.
replace the head gasket
It is not possible to repair the actual head gasket. Repair of a blown head gasket is to replace the gasket.
you probably have air in cooling system, which is probably caused by blown head gasket(s). Head gasket and intake gasket on these engines are notorious for failing.
How much should it cost to replace a blown head gasket for a 197 BMW 528I
Sounds like head gasket is leaking
Well, a blown head gasket isn't cheap at all, no matter the vehicle, but in my experience around $1500
Thick white smoke from the exhaust is a pretty good sign
1200
Because the head gasket is blown.
what are you asking here? PLease be more specific ...like - how do I know if my head gasket is blown, or what do I do about a blown head gasket ......
Sure it will start with a blown head gasket. But, if you continue to run this engine with a blown head gasket you will destroy the engine.
