The republican party then was much more liberal than we know it today. It is also important to remember that America was in a time where prohibition and the effects of WW1 still lingered in the American spot light. Cities began to get larger as people started moving into Urban settings. Legislation then turned to making standards of living better for citizens and the Republican Party had a lot to deal with changing America into the monopoly it would soon be.
