What is a Monoblock pumps?

A Monobloc pump is a pump in which all rotating parts are mounted on a common shaft. The main components of a Monobloc pumps are Pump assembly and Motor assembly. Since there are 7% losses in belt driven sets and 3% losses in coupling driven sets hence to avoid these transmission losses Monobloc pump sets evolved. In monobloc pump sets as motor and pump are mounted on a single shaft there is no energy loss during energy transmission from motor to shaft. By - Tanveer Ahmed Bankapur

The pump will run for a few seconds and then the breaker will trip?

If the breaker is not at fault, you are drawing too much current. When a pump motor starts it requires much more current that when it is up and running. It is likely that the impeller on the pump is being retarded in some way making it harder for the pump to come up to speed and drawing more current. You can likely disassemble the pump and remove the impeller and see if the problem persists. If so the rotor of the motor may be binding and causing drag or there is a short in the motor windings. When you have the motor apart check the starting centrifugal switch, the motor may not be getting out of the start winding and into the run winding.

Why reciprocating pumps are not coupled with motor?

In case of emergency, if the cylinder stops, the motor does not. So it can be harmful for motor. Designers couple the high power motor to the cylinder of pump by means of a clutch. so the motor can continue to rotate while the cylinder stops. Also in case of closing the outlet valve of a pump, the pressure in the cylinder can fail the cylinder or crankshaft and accessories. in this case the clutch can separate the power from motor to the pump and prevent failure of pump.
