check the u-joints in the drive shaft first
Yes there is, otherwise it would not be able to drive. The transmission is the gears, the chain and the sprocket. Some motorcycles have a drive shaft instead of a chain.
You probably have something wrong with your engine, or brakes. You should really have that checked.
The simple explaination is there are gears at the bottom of the shaft which turn other gears in the steering box which move an arm which moves a series of linkages attached to the front wheels. In a rack & pinion, instead of gears in a box there are hydraulics that move tie rods connected to the wheels
Could be a bunch of stuff, but some of the earlier Fieros had an issue with the shaft connected to clutch pedal bending which would cause the clutch to not fully disengage. When your car's not running you can shift gears all day without pushing in the clutch. Try that when your fiero's running and all you'll do is chew gears.
One or both of your cv boot/s is torn or has a hole in it. the cv boot keeps the drive shaft lubricated and dirt/debris out of the gears that turn your wheels. chances are that you might already need a new half shaft.
Bugpack makes a good gear puller made just for this purpose (#7017). A press would work also, just have to be careful to getunder the gear without ruining it. We used to heat the gears up in an oven and slip them back onwhen reassembling them.
a faulty torque converter, faulty fluid pump, broken input shaft, worn forward band/Worn clutches/Low fluid level
If the 1997 Nissan Altima with an automatic transmission is shifting gears too early, it could be that the shift solenoid for the transmission is faulty. Both the shift solenoid and the speed sensor on the transmission should be checked.
I would think it would be a stuck solenoid, it allows the fluid to run to your drum that hold the clutchs and compresses them together to make the gears move with the shaft
The front axle shaft will be cv style, so zero there. The front drive shaft would have three. The rear drive shaft would have two if it is a one piece shaft, three if a two piece shaft. The front axle shaft will be cv style, so zero there. The front drive shaft would have three. The rear drive shaft would have two if it is a one piece shaft, three if a two piece shaft.
The transmission computer will default to second gear when it detects a malfunction. You need to have the system checked for codes to know possible causes.
