I just got a 1983 suzuki lt185 from a friend its been sitting for 2 years with no gas in it i cleaned the carb and gas tank and put new gas in it it started and then stopd WA would cause this problem?

Suzuki made a good reliable ATV. If it starts and then stops, there is most likely an issue with gas flow.
I believe that has a plastic gas tank, so no concerns about rust in the empty gas tank (tractors have that issue).
Your best bet is to clean the tank and carb real well with carb cleaner. Be sure to make sure the float is working, all orfices are clean and the choke moves. Stick with it, it will work again.
