If a charge-off is 2 years away from the 7-year statutory limit is it better to just leave it alone than pay it?

this answer largely depends on where you live. for credit purposes the charge off will come off of your report and stop negatively affecting the score after 7 years. however, you have to find out what the statute of limitations is for lawsuits from your creditors. don't be fooled- they could sue you and get a judgment for what you owe, in Texas it's only 4 years so you would be safe, but places like Ohio are more like 10-15 years.
