If bedbugs have infested your clothes, they are going to be everywhere else, too. You should contact an exterminator, and when you call to make an appointment for them to come treat the problem, ask them what you should do about your clothes. Do this right away so you don't get bites from the bedbugs and so you don't spread them to others.

On the lighter side:

No, go out by all means, just don't wear the vest.

If they invested your clothing, and you don't have other clothes to wear now, you should stay home until you have earned enough dividends to buy a new wardrobe.

Can you lay in someones bed and get bed bug bites?

Yes, if the bed is in an area infected with bedbugs you can and most likely will be bitten by bedbugs. You could also end up infecting your own home if they lay eggs on your clothing or if one hitches a ride with you when you go home.

Bedbugs are transient therefore you somehow bring them home or someone else brings them into your home. They can come in on a person's clothing, belongings, furniture (especially used), they travel along electrical and plumbing conduits in apartment style buildings infesting various units, etc.

Can bedbugs live in houseplants?

NO. Do not confuse bedbugs with garden bugs. They are completely different. Bedbugs normally live inside a home in or near to a bed. They do not live outside in a garden. Bedbug eggs usually get brought into a home in furniture or luggage. When the eggs in the furniture or luggage hatch, the bedbugs set up their base close to where some person sleeps at night, which is usually thereafter in or near somebodys bed inside that home. That is why they are called bedbugs

Can you get bedbugs from mail order clothing?

Yes. Bedbugs may lay their eggs in somebody visiting's clothes, such as in a pocket or seam, or perhaps a live bedbug will crawl in there without the person knowing. When the person gets back to their own home and perhaps takes the clothes off and leaves them lying about, either the eggs will hatch or the live bug will try to find a new source of food. In either case it will smell the breath of somebody asleep and make for that bed, so that could mean the start of an infestation in that home.

Why are bed bugs not considered to be a health issue?

Bedbugs apparently do not cause a communicable disease, and therefore are not considered a "threat" to the general public. It might be technically true, but what they don't tell you is that once you get bedbugs onto your clothes and body, and bring them home, you are doomed. Bedbugs are almost impossible to get rid of from clothes, furniture and bedding, and I have heard even after 3 heat treatments, an expensive fumigation technique, they can still be a problem. I think the public deserves the right to know when a public building has a problem with bedbugs, and should have to close its doors until the bedbugs have been removed, and an inspection done to prove so.
