Usually the "illumination" wires are yellow in the car and the stereo, and the negative should go to ground. I think that's how I hooked mine up. I can check it and get back to you later.
You connect the positive one (commonly orange/white) to your dash lights positive.
connect the positive and negative to the stereo

Ive installed some aftermarket decks in late model mazda's , try wiring your own ground to get the dash lights back... seems the wire that the factory deck grounded with acts as a relay or something with a negative signal running through it
The illumination wire on a car stereo is meant for the brightness on the display. It is used to adjust the brightness of the display for seeing it during night hours.
You take the stereo out of the car, get a 12v battery and charger, or a 12v regulated power supply capable of about 5Amps. Plug the red and yellow wires to the positive supply and the black wire to the negative. The speaker wires are in pairs, some stereos have four speakers. There may be extra wires for ancillary use, orange for illumination and blue for electric antenna. These may be ignored and insulated.

If you want to run both coils, you have to wire the positive to positive and negative to negative on your sub, then run a wire from each plug to the amp. Positive to the positive side of the amp and negative to negative side of the amp,(you can run in bridge mode or stereo if your amp can handle the load)
Tap into the dash illumination fuse in the fuse block.
Positive is normally red or white with a red stripe. Negative is usually green or on rare occasions black. A multimeter will verify this.
