You will definitely build up your core (abs) but it may not be necessarily visible. My abs are more visible than my friend's who has a lot of baby fat yet he can do more sit ups than me. So basically it really depends on the person although running is a much more effective way of losing fat. I recommend you do about 20-40 sit ups and push ups a day, and run 2-3 times a week.
