If a debt is sold to another company for collection does it take another 7 years from the transfer of debt for it to come off your credit report in California?

The date of first delinquency should be the date that starts the clock for the 7 years. Meaning if you went 30 days late in April 2005, on a credit card, and then 60, 90 then 120, then the account would go to charge off status but the date of first delinquency would be April 2005. In CA, 4 years from the date of first delinquency is within the statute of limitations is in effect that a creditor or collection agency can sue you for the amount owed. This will vary from state to state, If the collection agency sells the collection to another collection company, the start date is the date of first delinquency, April 2005. If the collection agency changes the date, that is called re-aging and is illegal unless you set up new terms with collection agency

Can late payments come off your credit report?

Yes late payments can come off your credit report. They can be removed by either the original creditor that put it on there or by the credit bureaus. You can dispute late payments on your credit report with the credit bureaus using the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The FCRA requires the credit bureaus to contact the creditors to verify the late payment. If the late payment isn't verified it must be removed.

Can a credit card company collect on a debt over seven years old?

Yes. Even though the chargeoff line item should come off of the credit report in seven years, the credit card company may attempt to collect their debt for as long as they wish (assuming no fair credit collection laws are broken in the process).

If a debt has been paid to the original creditor and they recall it from their collection agency will a dispute succeed in having it removed from the credit report?

Hard to say. Disputing the collection after you pay off the creditor could still come back as 'verified' from the credit bureaus simply because the collection did happen. If the collection agency does not respond to the credit bureau's query, then the entry will be removed.

If a charge off has just come off your credit report can a collection agency or debt collector put it back?

NO! Once a debt has reached it's statute of limitation it must be removed from your credit report. If a collection company reports the bedt with a new date dispute it immediatly because what they are doing is illegal.

Debt paid off to collection agency when will they notify credit agencies?

Unfortunately, I know from experience. I've been told that they would be notified immediately. However, it can take at least 3 months to come off of your credit report. Don't forget that you can get 1 free credit report a year from the government.

Can a reporting agency change dates on credit report after a dispute?

How long can a collection agency come after old debt that does not show up on a credit report any longer?

There are very few states that have laws regulating the attempt at collection on old debts like these. However, if you live in New Mexico and very shortly NY they have to inform you that they have no legal recourse and you have to pay it out of the goodness of your heart. Collection Agencies in Mississippi and Wisconsin have to clear the tradeline on the credit bureau as soon as the account is past the Statute of Limitations.

Do addresses come up on credit report?

Yes, addresses come up on a credit report. Generally, the most recent four addresses are represented on a credit report - the current address and the three prior addresses. Not all credit reports are up to date, however, so there may be less recent addresses in the credit report and it is up to the individual to update the credit reporting agencies. IN the United States there are three (3) credit reporting agencies and every citizen is allowed to get a free copy of their report from each agency on an annual basis. Be sure to check your credit report from each provider at least once per year and request updates to addresses that are out of date.
