inside the cap where the coil is it has a ground wire that is conected to the plug and the coil body if is not properly conected it may cause to bur the module often.
Do you have HEI ignition? If so have your pick up coil checked for resistance sounds like it might be going bad or check your wire connections on it. also check your HEI module at the distributor. some auto store will check the module for you. hope this helps.
Bad Ignition Module in Distributor.
The internal hall effect switch could be bad or the module that is bolted to the side of the distributor. Most Advance auto parts stores can test the module for you.
A bad ignition module will cause a no start situation in a vehicle because the needed spark is not created. It is responsible for telling the distributor when to fire.
The year, make, model and engine info would be helpful but a bad ignition module or crank sensor could do that.FYI, spark originates in the coil then is sent to the distributor then to the spark plugs.
a '95 riviera does not have a distributor. If you mean the ignition coils, then you probably looking at bad ignition module-located under the coils. Or bad crank sensor.
On a high energy ignition, possible problems include: Faulty keyswitch, faulty wiring or connectors, faulty pickup inside the distributor, faulty electrical condenser, if it has points (depends on the type of HEI) the points could be bad, faulty coil or faulty HEI control module. You will need to identify which component has failed.
The ignition module that is in the distributor is probley bad.
Yes, but I don't know why you would take the HEI / High energy ignition distributor out and replace it with 1 that has points and condenser. That would be a BAD move.
Many possiblities. It depends on if you have a coil or an HEI ignition. If you have a coil, check your distributor to make sure your coil wire is attached properly. If your coil is attached, unplug it from your distributor and hold it close to the connection while someone cranks your engine. If you do not see a spark, your coil is bad. If you do see a spark, your rotor might be bad, or your points.
Bad coil? Bad distributor cap? If not HEI ignition-could be bad coil wire
Does the oil pressure gauge move when you crank the engine? If not suspect bad oil pressure switch. Have you checked all fuses? Consider possibly bad distributor pickup or dead HEI ignition module.
