Tithe is not meant to follow in our dispensation.

Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Is tithe just from work check?

I look at it as 10% of what I have. Since all I have is bought with money and that is the day's currency, I tithe with money (as opposed to giving 10% of my couch). That being said, I tithe on all monies that enter into my possession. So, definitely my check, but also any money I receive aside from that. Simply b/c that new money becomes what I have, it's still a blessing from God, and maybe the person I got it from didn't tithe on it, so I feel better about it that way. But as always a good rule of thumb is better safe than sorry. Hope this helps.

How much should you tithe?

You should only tithe as much as you can afford. You should not impoverish yourself in order to give your money to a church. Tithe is a word used long ago to mean "a tenth". Tithes were paid to the church or to the Lord of the Manor. It meant that you should give one tenth of whatever you had, whether crops or animals or money. There were "tithe barns" in which the Lord of the Manor would store crops or hay which had been given to him.
