However from 1945 until 1949, the UK did occupy and administer a quadrant of what would become West Germany when unified with the French and United States administered quadrants after World War 2. The Soviet (Russian) sector became East Germany. Germany was reunified on March 15, 1991 (56 years after it was conquered by the allied forces). This happened following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact countries.
