No Iodised salt is produced so that there is a source of iodine to the body, in places like Australia and New Zealand where there is a lack of iodine in the natural surroundings where they would otherwise be taken up with fruit and vegetables.

Iodised salt (also spelled iodized salt) is table salt mixed with a minute amount of various iodine-containing salts. The ingestion of iodide prevents iodine deficiency. Worldwide, iodine deficiency affects about two billion people and is the leading preventable cause of mental retardation.[1] It also causes thyroid gland problems, including endemic goitre. In many countries, iodine deficiency is a major public health problem that can be cheaply addressed by iodisation of salt.

Iodine is a micronutrient that is naturally present in the food supply in many regions. However, where natural levels of iodine in the soil are low and the iodine is not taken up by vegetables, iodine added to salt provides the small but essential amount needed by humans.(source wikipedia)

Is iodised salt a mixture?

Iodised salt is considered a mixture because it consists of two components: regular table salt (sodium chloride) and an added iodine compound, typically potassium iodide or potassium iodate. These components retain their individual properties and can be present in varying proportions. Thus, iodised salt does not have a uniform composition throughout, which is characteristic of mixtures.

Can iodised salt be used in place of plain salt in tomato relish?

Yes, iodised salt can be used in place of plain salt in tomato relish. The primary difference is the presence of iodine, which doesn't significantly affect the flavor of the relish. However, it’s important to use it in moderation, as iodised salt may have a slightly different taste profile. Overall, it will work well for seasoning and preserving the relish.

NaCl is iodised salt and iodine show sublimation so while cooking is there any iodine present after the the food is cooked?

Iodised salt contains a very small amount of iodine added to prevent iodine deficiency. When heated during cooking, the iodine content in iodised salt does not vaporize or sublimate significantly to create a health concern. Hence, the amount of iodine present in the food after cooking from iodised salt is negligible and safe.
