Yes, the religion of Islam was ordered to be spread by the sword. Examples of these actions include Muhammad's massacres of the Jewish tribes of Medina. Later on in Islamic history Islam was spread by violence such as the conquering of Israel and Constantinople by force.

This contrasts to Christian theology where Christianity was to be spread by acts of goodwill and choice. wrong...Christianity was spread by force and violence, the crusades were the primary method of forcing Christianity onto people, and millions died through thsi method.

AnswerYes and no. Islam, like many religions, has been spread throughout the world by both worth of mouth and by violence. Prophets and clerics spread the word of their beliefs, usually using non-violent methods, such as preaching and teaching. A long time ago, when empires would swallow smaller nations or other empires, the religion of the victors would normally be imposed on the newly added land.

So, it would be accurate to say that Islam has been spread by violence. But it would be inaccurate to say that Islam has been spread by violence alone.

no Islam doesnt promote terrorism

The media just makes it look like it does

for a while the media has said that Islam contains a verse saying

"when you see a non Muslim kill him"

they took this out of context

the verse really says

"when you are at war if you see a non Muslim kill him,"

then later it says in different verses"but if he is unarmed don't kill him"," don't kill women and children","If he surrenders escort him to safety"

so you can see how the media takes things out of context

Islam doesnt allow the killing of innocent people

for more info email me at km_359@hotmail.com

Going back to the verse: During the Vietnam War, generals said "Kill all the Vietnamese!" Let's say the media uses this to show the cruelty of the army today--is it used correctly?

Answer 1

There is no link between Jihad and violence. Refer to related questions below.

Answer 2

A Jihad does not have to be violent, but often is. As concerns the Greater Jihad, which is an introspective journey to conquer your internal demons and follow the Divine Laws more closely than previously, there should be no violence that derives from this jihad. As concerns the Lesser Jihad, this is usually in the form of warfare between Muslims and Non-Muslims or other Muslims. This jihad is almost necessarily violent, unless the actor chooses to use non-violent protest as his form of jihad.

Additionally, we are beginning to see the development of jihadism as a political ideology, which holds that the only way to establish Shari'a-compliant Islamic States is through violent acts of warfare. Although jihadism is a political ideology, as opposed to a religious tenet of Islam, it is strongly informed by Islamic religious doctrines on jihad. The rise of jihadism directly promotes violence.

No. In fact Islam is really a peaceful religion but those who accuse it of violence are either liars or ignorant of its beautiful truth.

Answer:

All closed or exclusive religions have violent histories on the part of some followers (closed religions are those who lay exclusive proprietary claim to one God; open [inclusive] religions recognize and accept other religious beliefs as valid, so are perhaps less prone to proselytize by the sword. Hence, for example, Islam and Christianity are closed; Buddhism is open). Christians have had a couple of millennia of experience killing non-Christians, and even their own in the name of God. No one religion has a monopoly on violence. Conversely, all such religions have followers who do not espouse violence, so the question is not phrased well. It's important to understand that neither side constitutes a complete definition of the religion, nor can religious ideology ever be separated from the very human behaviors of its strongest adherents. Are there violent elements in the followers of Islam? Yes. Are there peace-loving Muslims? Yes. The same is true of of Christianity and Christians. The fact of being "closed" is in itself an invitation to argument ("My god is bigger than your god, and no, they are not the same," "We're right, they're wrong...," etc.), and the argument tends to be engaged by the most intense adherents, so violence from some quarter is an inevitable consequence of the marriage between that kind of religious dogma and our baser human nature.

No, because even the Prophet Muhammad )peace be upon him) was peaceful and was peaceful and respectful even to his enemies. There was a hadith that says the Muslim is the one who avoids harming Muslims with his tongue and hands. So we are NOT violent.

What made Islam turn from peaceful to violent?

Islam is always a peaceful religion and never turns to a violent religion. Only some minorities of Muslim extremists; as in all other religions and faiths; are violent.

Islam is viewed now as?

Islam is viewed as a fast growing religion, next to Christianity. However negatively portrayed because of war and Middle Eastern events. Its viewed as a violent religion, however is not. the violent Muslims are Muslim by name not actual practicer's of the religion. They claim to be from the religion Islam, but aren't following the true religion. If people see and follow the "fake" Muslims then it will be viewed as a violent dangerous blood thirsty religion. a religion filed with extremist. However, not all Muslims are this way, and this isn't the true religion called Islam. True followers of Islam don't promote hate or violence.

Why is islam such a violent relegion?

It is utterly misleading to say that Islam is a violent religion. Was Jesus Christ (May peace and blessings be upon him) a violent man? Did he preach violence? Surely NOT. Why have then Christians been bombarding Muslim countries like Iraq and Afghanistan and killing millions of innocent citizens? Should we say, Why is Christianity a violent religion? Surely, Christianity is not a violent religion-some of people who claim to be Christians are violent.Similarly, Islam is not a violent religion-some of the people who claim to be the Muslims are violent. Judaism, Christianity and Islam are heavenly religions given to mankind by Almighty God. He is kind, merciful and loving. How can He be violent to His own creation? Islam means -peace, complete and unconditional surrender to the will of Almighty God. Almighty God says in the holy Qur'an: "He who kills one innocent human being (He doesn't say an innocent Muslim), Kills all human beings. He who saves the life of one innocent human being, saves all human beings." How can a Muslim be violent? Kings, Emperors, Dictators, certain Priests and religious leaders might have been preaching violence for their vested interests. No religion preaches violence._________________________________________________________________I agree fully on the analysis above and like to add the following:Islam is never a violent religion. Islam calls for peace and justice and good morals. If Islam calls for defending your lands and properties (called military Jihad) it does not mean violence. If Islam calls Muslims to struggle within themselves to be in the right path of God and not to commit sins, it does not mean violence, Islam calls for peace and tolerance. Refer to questions below.

Why is Islam so violent toward the US?

it is not Islam which is violent towards the USA, although it is the Taliban and they are Muslims. They are called extremists as they take Islam to the extreme. In Islam we are taught to care and be kind to all religions even atheists. The thing which strikes me is that some people think a group of people who are in the same religion fighting ,means the whole religion is with them. Even the Taliban for example! The Taliban have killed more Muslims and Afghans then anyone else!

How can Islam be reformed to a modern tolerant non-violent religion?

Answer 1Islam in fact is not a violent religion. There are two types of people in the world, Good, and Bad...If you think that all mulsims are terrorists then its your loss because there might be someone thinking that about your religion. Islam means peace. I hope you got your answer.Answer 2Islam, according to Tariq Ramadan, an Oxford Professor and European Muslim, recognizes that man exists in states of war and in states of peace and the Qur'an as a fundamental guide to the life in the real world has elements of violence and elements of peace-making, but emphasizes the peace-making. On account of this, Islam is not as violent as many Islamophobes make it out to be. However, Islam is certainly not pacifist or entirely peaceful. The most peaceful religion in the world is probably Jainism, which is strictly non-violent and strictly vegetarian. In terms of reforming Islam, there are a number of leading scholars who have attempted to create liberal forms of Islam. Leaders of the most liberal versions of Islam are Tarek Fatah, Irshad Manji, and Tawfik Hamid. Some Muslims try to advocate a moderate middle-of-the road liberalization like Hamza Yusuf, Tariq Ramadan, and Yusuf Estes. In both versions (Liberal and Moderate), Islam is a tolerant and less violent religion. (There is no pacifist version of Islam.)
