Quebec is a province and city in Canada.

Quebec, now a Canadian province, is part of what used to be New France. New France was headquartered in Quebec, and had its only population concentration there. However, New France included trading posts and forts throughout most of the midwestern U.S.A. and what is now Ontario province. The spread of French place names into the Midwest USA is the evidence of this.

New France ended by the British conquest of Quebec City of 1759. The territory was formally ceded to Britain by the Treaty of Paris in 1763.

Montreal is a city in what was New France.

New France was the area colonized by France in North America and was divided into several colonies. At its peak in 1712 (before the Treaty of Utrecht), the territory of New France extended from Newfoundland to the Rocky Mountains and from Hudson Bay to the Gulf of Mexico.
