i had a 81 c10 i replaced mine with a 85 the only thing i could find different was mine did not have tilt wheel i had no problems other than the a/c wire was to short but was a easy fix i would think it would work in you case but do not know all the details on yours

Remove the belt from your 1985 Nissan 300 alternator. Remove the wiring harness from the alternator. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. The alternator will come off.

first you pull the factory plate from the concole, all you need to do that is a flat head screw driver. after the plate is pulled you remove the factory radio, and unplug the wiring from the harness. ensure that you have a wiring harness to match the car, you can buy it at canadiantire for $13. wire your new CD player to this wiring harness and plug the harness into the factory wiring. you will also need a mounting kit that you buy at Canadian tire for $20. install the CD player in the mounting kit and bracket into the dash. now you can reinstall the plate and now the CD player is installed. process takes 20 minutes to an hour.
The 1985 Chevrolet El Camino ignition switch can be removed by loosening the retaining ring at the top of the switch. The switch will slide out. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the ignition switch.
Possibly a bad ground in the rear wiring harness somewhere.
