Maybe but it depends upon what you mean by "rear end". Do you mean the axle and axle housing or the body of the truck? Keep in mind a 2000 Silverado is a different generation than a 1997.
The speedometer signal on a 2000 Ram comes from the ABS sensor on top of the rear axle.
