That depends on which speed sensor you are referring to. There are 4 ABS speed sensors, an idle speed sensor, an engine speed sensor, and a transmission speed sensor that I know of. As far as which one runs your speedometer, I believe that is the vehicle speed sensor mounted on the housing of your transmission. I have the same vehicle and the same problem. I have the same question as you as well. I have been doing some research and I have told you what I found. My tachometer and speedometer are not working. If anyone else knows anything different, I am sure both of us would appreciate it.

The output speed sensor provides the signal for the speedometer over 11 mph. Replacement is the same for both, disconnect the wiring connector, using a deep well socket, remove the sensor, install the new sensor in reverse order. Care should be taken when removing the sensor, transmission fluid will come out. This operation should not be done on a hot transmission.

On my 2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7 are 2 sensors. They are both located on drivers side of transmission. The one close to bell housing is input shaft speed sensor. The one at end of transmission is output shaft speed sensor. My input sensor went bad but replaced both. Both sensors are the same. Fairly easy to change out. About $47.00 each at dealer.
