You're talking about a Yamaha VMax? No it's not a good beginner bike.
It makes far too much horsepower to put a green rider on it.
It isn't the best handling, or the best braking bike either.
I suggest you learn to ride in the dirt to pick up the basics, then continue with something like a Honda 250 Rebel for the first year or two.

Depends on what you are looking for in a bike. The Blast is a single cylinder 500cc street bike that is light and nimble and gets good fuel economy. The bike is not powerful and is plain Jane looking, but it would be a good commuter and can keep up with traffic speeds. Yamaha started making the VMAX in 2008. The VMAX, however, is no longer being manufactured in 2013 though and is out of production at the moment with no plans for future production.
