Cycling is an excellent exercise, especially for people who are overweight, because it is "low impact", meaning that you don't cause injury to the feet, knees and hips like you do when you run. Remember to work out to the point that you START to feel a little out of breath, but not much beyond that. Just get your pulse and breathing rates up, but don't go to the point where you're panting for breath. Maintain your exercise for a half hour or more, 3 or 4 times a week, and you'll see an improvement. As you get into shape you'll notice that you need to work harder to get to that point of being a little out of breath, but that's the target zone, so just be pleased with the progress and continue to push yourself.
