It can be done, but I would not. For transportation with no other option, yes. If you do move it this way, do not turn it on for a few hours. The oil inside the compressor will flow into the system and will need to drain back into the compressor. If you have to lay it down, do so for as brief a period as possible. Oil inside the coil, evap and condenser are all bad for the system.
