Yes. The wind can suck more heat up the chimney and suck more cold air into the house. I bet you didn't realized that a fireplace in cold weather has to draw cold air from the outside by some means into the house to feed the fireplace updraft. Go figger!

Is it ever too cold outside to have a fire in an indoor fireplace?

Absolutely. If the temperature is BELOW 30 degrees F, you run the strong risk of burning your house down. I repeat, DO NOT use your indoor fireplace if it is colder than 30 degrees. As a former firefighter that inspected chimneys; wood stoves; etc., fireplaces have been around a very long time in all types of weather and temperatures. The best way to use a cold chimney is to heat it slowly with a small fire. Cold chimneys will crack when heated too quickly. This is extremely dangerous. First and most important, have the chimney and fireplace checked by a professional before each season every year. Fireplaces are not very heat efficient. When not in use they bring in the cold.

What is the best indoor basketball?

I like the Wilson Ultra ball. It has a good bounce and breaks in nicely, but the best part is the feel. Because of its sponge rubber underlayer, it has and indoor feel but wears like an outdoor ball. Easily the best indoor/outdoor ball that I have ever used.
