Not that I'm aware of (unlike my '86 Olds 88 where you shorted two contacts, and it flashed the engine code in Morse Code). Some local parts stores will read the engine code for you (with their scan tool).

I'm certainly NOT a mechanic but .... since the trouble codes are stored in the vehicle's on-board computer I doubt that there IS any way to retrieve them without a device and a program that can "read" the car's computer.

Yes ... You need to support the engine from above,there is a hanger that attaches to the top of the shock towers that has a hook on it that will support the engine, when you remove the engine cradle (frame) below.
