A stereotype is known by some to be a conventional conception or image (Datamuse, 2013). Another realization of stereotyping is one having an exaggerated idea of members from a particular social group; many times stereotyping helps to maintain stratification among generations (Argosy Online, 2013). Many people are reliant on stereotyping due to the efficiency of organization processing of information (Bakanic, 2009). Although the majority of people (within the United States) rely on stereotypes for organizational purposes, it is possible to speak of ethnic groups in terms other than stereotypical dispositions.

It is possible to communicate of ethnic groups (in America) without the use of stereotypes. This possibility comes from the idea of suppressing and controlling stereotypical behavior (Bakanic, 2009).

For instance, social psychological research shows that stereotyping is able to be controlled; to control such behavior, social structure must occur (Fisk et al., 1998). One idea for control comes from the certain conditions pertaining to contact theory. This particular theory coincides with social structure; any contact between and with group members decreases the use of stereotypes (Bakanic, 2009). Also, the motivation to use or suppress stereotypes comes from the social position of an individual as well as the group the individual belongs to (Bakanic, 2009). The idea of embracing these differences coincides with the ability of abolishing the use of stereotypical ideals.
