Yes, there are generally two solar eclipses every year. Sometimes when the Earth, Moon and Sun don't quite line up perfectly, we get two partial eclipses (a month apart) instead of one total or annular eclipse. 2011 was one of those; there were 4 partial eclipses, but no total ones.

The most recent partial solar eclipse was on November 25, 2011.

The next solar eclipse will be annular, on May 20, 2012, just one month from today. It will be visible from Japan, across the northern Pacific, to northern California to New Mexico and Texas.

The next TOTAL solar eclipse will be on November 13, 2012, and will extend from northern Australia across the south Pacific to the southern tip of South America.

Eclipses themselves will not have any effect on your life. An eclipse is no different from night. Philosophically, the emotions that you feel while viewing an eclipse can be quite powerful. And if you are staring at the eclipsed Sun during a solar eclipse, the moment at which the Moon moves to reveal the Sun, the sunlight can seriously damage your eyes, but that's true of any time when you stare directly at the Sun.

Why do partial solar eclipses occur more than total solar eclipses?

There are 4 types of solar eclipse. Total, Hybrid, Annular and Partial eclipses.A Total Eclipse is when the sun totally covers the sun.An Annular Eclipse is when the whole moon is in line with the sun but the apparent diameter of the moon is less than the apparent diameter of the sun.A Hybrid Eclipse is when some places on Earth experience a annular eclipse and other places see a total eclipse.A Partial Eclipse is when the moon is not totally in line with the sun and only eclipses part of the sun.
