Is smoking haram in islam

It is haram as it is harmful to your health and body that you are required not to harm. Some scholars say it makrouh.

It is well known that:

• Smoking kills. If you die because of smoking, it is a suicide.
• Smoking is harmful to the body.
• Smoking becomes an addiction and is a waste of money.
• Smoking gives a bad smell.
• Passive smoking also harms other people.

According to Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi (a top shia scholar), it is haram.
