Any sodas which do not contain honey or certain red coloring agents are acceptable vegan drinks. Both cochineal and carmine colorings are both made of ground cochineal beetles.

Other drinks may also be excluded, such as beer or wine made using isinglass, a fish-derived precursor to Gelatin. Drinks in the 'new age' category such as Snapple often contain cochineal coloring as well.

Strict veganism excludes foodstuffs which exploit, harm, or kill living creatures including insects.

However, many vegans take a view of reasonableness of effort. Spending your free time searching out new animal products to exclude from your diet is time that might be better spent on more productive pursuits.

For example, drinking a soda made primarily of high fructose corn syrup, while not harming any animals directly, encourages mono-crop agriculture, which harms biodiversity.
