Have you heard the phrase, "why buy the cow when the milk is free?"

It sounds like you two could benefit from professional counseling. Or, if your fiance will not cooperate, you could benefit from professional counseling as you have already expressed concern over the situation.

I understand where you are coming from since my fiance and I have been engaged since September 30th, 2011. He says that he wants to get to know me better.?! I thought he knew me well enough to get engaged to me but I guess not. I have been married before and he has not. Maybe it is to keep you satisfied for 2 more years then talk about a date again? I wish you the best of luck. It sounds to me like it is an excuse.

If they can't give you a reasonable answer that you believe I'd walk away as this person obviously isn't as committed to being with you for life as you had hoped.

Can you wear your wedding ring and engament ring before you get married?

I don't think that there is a rule against it, but it is not common. Wearing a wedding ring generally means you are married, so it would be misleading to wear it if you have not yet had the ceremony. As for the engagement ring, many woman will only wear it until they are actually married, at which time they change to the wedding ring. But some women like their engagement ring so much that they wear both the wedding ring and the engagement ring together even after they are married.

What is the difference between an Engagement Ring and Wedding Ring?

Traditionally, an engagement ring is given when you propose. Usually (but depends on taste/preferences) it is a solitaire (one diamond or gemstone) or a shouldered solitaire (one diamond/gemstone with littler diamonds/gemstones on either side). The idea appears to be to present something big or stunning. Wedding ring/band are exchanged between wife and husband during a wedding ceremony. Traditionally, it is worn under the engagement ring. Traditionally speaking, it is a plain band or both husband and wife's bands match. These days, it is common to not have matching bands. This is because of the choice of engagement ring resulting in an unusual shape wedding band to fit perfectly against the engagement ring. It is very common to have the traditional eternity ring style as a wedding band for women. Eternity bands were marketed to be given at a ten year anniversary. They have diamonds (or other gemstone) all the way around. Some people find this impractical so half-eternity rings came about. They only have jewels placed on one side to be seen when wearing, as opposed to around the entire band. It is common to receive one on an anniversary, birth of a child, overcoming illness, redoing vows etc. They are worn on top of the engagement ring or replace engagement and wedding ring. It is not that common to have eternity rings these days. And there style is a popular choice as a wedding band. It is common practice to wear the above rings on your left hand, on the finger next to your little finger. This is because it has a direct pathway to your heart.

What is the protocol in getting a man an engagement ring?

Traditionally, in the United States men do not sport an engagement ring. However, it is acceptable in some cases, particularly if it is a long term engagement, to "mark" the man as in a committed relationship. Generally if the man is being proposed to, which is non traditional, but becoming more and more common, a different gift is given. In either case, if you are going to outfit a man with an engagement ring, a simple, inexpensive gold band is considered proper as it will be replaced by a wedding ring. This is in contrast to many women's engagement rings as they often are worn as a set with their wedding ring.

Do men wear a wedding band before the wedding?

Traditionally, men do not wear a wedding band before the wedding ceremony. The exchange of wedding rings is a symbolic part of the marriage ceremony itself, typically taking place during the wedding vows. During the ceremony, the couple will exchange rings as a symbol of their commitment and love for each other. After the wedding ceremony, it's common for both the bride and groom to wear their wedding bands as a visible sign of their marital status. In many cultures, the wedding band is worn on the ring finger of the left hand, although this can vary. While the tradition is for the wedding bands to be exchanged and worn after the ceremony, some couples may choose to wear engagement rings or promise rings before the wedding as a symbol of their commitment during the engagement period. These rings are separate from the official wedding bands and are often replaced or worn in addition to the wedding bands after the marriage ceremony. The customs surrounding wedding jewelry can vary, so personal preferences and cultural or religious practices play a role in these decisions.

In the state of NC do you get your engagement ring back if the engagement or wedding is called off by the man?

I am answering this not from a legal point but from what I a male/gentleman perspective. If an engagement ring was given to a lady, that will be forever hers to do with as she pleases, regardless of what happens after the giving of the ring. I man should not ask for it back, however he should it accept it back only if first offered to him. The world of engagement traditions are covered in summary form at www.diamondseverlasting.com and unlike many of the other clear cut traditions, the question posed here is less common and hope my guidance assists
