Yes there is a difference.
Mexican Walnut is sometimes use as a commercial name for Guanacaste (different spellings are used in different countries) It is not related to the walnut family. It's a beautiful and relatively soft hardwood from Mexico and Central America. There is also a "Mexican Walnut" that grows in Texas and nearby states.
