As of September 7th, 2012, there have been 1,986 American military personnel killed by enemy action in Afghanistan. An additional 118 soldiers were killed in other countries in operations supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. 17,382 American soldiers have been wounded due to enemy action. There do not seem to be exact numbers, but many sources cite a figure of about 11,000 Jewish-American soldiers killed and about 40,000 wounded. In addition, another 52,000 (my father among them) received other decorations and citations for bravery.
