You should try to go on the Birth Control pill. It usually helps with getting a period regular and you will only have it once every 4 weeks. I dont know why your doctors refuse to try it unless there is a reason you cant take it.

See a gynocologist and ask to be put on birth control to regulate your period. (Mine is irregular also.)

There are many things that can be done to regulate menstrual cycles.

It depends on what is actually causing irregular cycles to begin with - also it depends on what you mean by 'irregular'. The average menstrual cycle is 28 days but everyone has a different cycle length and anything up to a weeks variation from your normal cycle is considered regular, when we talk of irregular cycles we're talking about weeks or months difference from one cycle to the next.

If you're in your teens then irregular cycles are normal as it takes time for your body to reach a point where it is mature enough to ovulate on a regular basis and while your body is developing hormones can be a little off balance. Otherwise you may be looking at something more serious, thus your doctor needs to run tests to determine why your cycles are irregular and look at treatment.

In the mean time you can use Fertility Awareness Method which will tell you exactly where you are in your cycle and if you do have a health problem causing irregular cycles it will help your doctor figure out the cause of the problems. You can help your body regulate by staying healthy: healthy balanced diet, maintaining healthy weight, exercise, sleep well, and avoid stress, also taking daily multivitamins and herbal treatments like chaste tree can help too. Also try lunaception.

Hormonal birth control does NOT regulate menstrual cycles. This is a myth that needs to stop.

The purpose of hormonal birth control is to shut-down your menstrual cycles so that you no longer ovulate, as you no longer ovulate you also no longer menstruate either - the bleeding women experience on hormonal birth control such as the combination pill is a withdrawal bleed caused by the drop in synthetic hormones when going from active to inactive pills. All hormonal birth control does is hide the problem, in the mean time nothing is being treated and you risk side-effects.
