In older model vehicles they were one in the same. Always refer to the owners manual and the cap to the reservoir. The cap will reference Dexron-Mercon for General Motors, Toyota and other makes. Ford vehicles reference type F. However...Newer model vehicles have specific Power Steering fluids that are different from conventional transmission fluids. Both are still hydraulic fluids but are not interchangeable.
it should be a black cylender cup thing that says power steering fluid
put it in the thing next to the oil thing.
NO NO NO!!!! OMG I hope you did not try that already. Break fluid and powersteering fluid have different properties for different pressures, they are not the same thing and if you put break fluid in your power steering system you will destroy your car.
Yes, you can in use transmission fluid in your power steering pump. The only thing the fluid has to do is lubricate the parts and have zero compression to operate hydraulic systems in the rack and pinion. (Automatic Transmission fluid does this well...) Many cars will tell you in the owner's manual to use Dexron ATF, which is suitable for pretty much any power steering pump. If you want to buy fluid in a little bottle that says "power steering fluid" then that's up to you, but you can get a whole quart of ATF for probably the same price... Works all the same. Some auto parts stores claim that you will void your warranty by doing this, but that's a lie, especially if it tells you to do so in your owner's manual. You are doing no wrong.
Try checking the power steering fluid. My taurus did the same thing until i filled the power steering fluid.
no, brake fluid is not the same as power steering fluid, make sure you actually get the right stuff. and double check what type of brake fluid you have (dot 3/ dot 5) because there is a difference there too
i never knew such thing ok
My husband says not to worry. He puts it in his truck power-steering fluid frequently. It's best to use PS fluid, but tran fluid can be substituted in a pinch. However, you cannot put PS fluid in the tranny.AnswerActually, Mercon ATF is the recommended power steering fluid for 96' Ford Explorer XLTs. ANSWERno problem at all. its not the best thing in the world.. but it works. just don't ever use power steering fluid in the trans
THE POWER STEERING PUMP IS LOW ON FLUID . IT COULD BE A LEAK , HAVE TO CHECK VISUALLY , IF DONT KNOW WHAT IT LOOK LIKE ,IT IS THE ONLY THING WHEN YOU LIFT YOUR HOOD THAT HAS A BELT CONNECTED TO IT THAT HAS A REMOVABLE CAP ,{ GENERALLY} You need power steering fluid.
Some vehicle have either a transmission oil cooler or a power steering oil cooler in that location. Some vehicle have either a transmission oil cooler or a power steering oil cooler in that location.
The first thing you do is have a look if you have run out of power steering fluid. look into the top of the power steering fluid container and if you can not see any top it up to the point indicated on the container. run the engine move the steering around a little and see if you need topping up again. Some vehicles have a separate power steering belt that runs the power steering pump check if it is not broken or loose. otherwise have a word with your mechanic.
The first thing to check is the power steering fluid level. If the reservoir is low add some. Other then that, it can be the power steering pump is going bad, and will need to be replaced soon.
