Remove all spark plugs, turn the engine by hand and get the #1 spark plug at TDC on the compression stroke. Install the distributor so the rotor is pointing to the # 1 plug position on distributor cap. Start the engine and set the time it with a timing light.

What causes a 69 Chevy 350 to start but die when you rev the engine during the first start?

I just installed a 5.7 gmc engine do i have to bleed the fuel?

No, if you have injection the pump will pressurize the system on it's own. If you have a carb, you may want to prime the system for quick starting. Priming is done by pouring fuel into the top of the carb into the bowl vent, which will allow you to fill the bowl of the carb, so that the engine can start and run long enough for the fuel pump to get fuel from the tank and up to the carb.

How do you tune a Tecumseh 8hp snowblower engine?

I just rebuilt the carb on a Tecumseh 8hp snowblower engine mounted on a Craftsman frame. It was a 1986 model so it has the adjustable main jet and adjustable idle mixture jet. Screw in both jets to just snug, do not over tighten or you will ruin the jet or the carb. Back out the main jet approximately 2 full turns. It is located on the bottom of the carb float bowel. Back the idle mixture adjust jet out 1 1/4 turns. It is located on the side of the carb and can be accessed through an access hole in the side of the carb shield. It is the lower access hole. Start the engine and let it warm up. Fine tune the main jet by screwing it in until the engine runs rough. Now back it out until the engine runs smoothly at high speed without any choke. You should be good to go. If you wish to adjust the engine speed at low speed set the throttle control lever to just above where it enters the kill switch at the bottom. Now you can adjust the low speed idle by adjusting the screw at the top of the carb right next to the throttle butterfly control. It can be accessed through the top access hole in the side of the carb shield. Turn the screw in (to the right) to increase low idle speed and turn out (to the left) to reduce idle speed. Your engine should now run smoothly at both low and high speed.

Why will your car not start after setting to long?

Your fuel pump may not be holding pressure, try turning the key on 2 - 3 times before you start the engine (this only works on vehicles electric fuel pumps). If you have an engine with a carb engine get a fuel filter with a check valve and install it. That will keep the fuel from draining out of the carb while it sits.

Why wont your 3000 gt not crank replaced ignition switch altanater start relay about to buy starter?

For any gasoline engine to start it has to have fuel. Check to see if your getting gas in the carb. You may just need a fuel pump.

How do you clean the carburetor on a Tecumseh ohv 6.5 hp engine?

Purchase a rebuild kit. Take the carb off the engine. Disassemble the carb. Clean the parts with carb cleaner. Reassemble and install then adjust carb (if applicable) while running the engine.

The engine needs fuel, spark and compression. You are missing one of those.

How do you check vacuum system on 1989 camaro?

Are you checking for a vacuum leak? What I do is start the engine and use a can of carb cleaner and spray it around the engine. Spray it around the hoses, mating surfaces, base of carb or fuel injection and around sensors. If the engine rpm increases in an area start to narrow down in that location. Check for broken hoses or bad gaskets.

Where is the fuel pump on a 1974 dodge coronet?

on the passenger side of the engine block down low, just follow the gas line from the carb back and you will see it, 2 bolts hold it in place.
