Shifter assembly need replaced and it also need coded otherwise will not work.
I am not sure but there should be a switch by the brake pad to release the safety neutral switch to allow you to shift. Try that.
If your Mercedes won't shift out of park, you might have an issue with the brake sensor or the brake itself. The brake must be fully depressed in order to shift from park to drive or reverse.
The most likely cause is the brake light switch has failed check if the brake lights are working.
Check the fluid level. Reverse is the first gear to go when the level is too low. Otherwise, you may have more serious problems.
