If its only the temp gauge there could be a few factors. I had an '01 Impala 3.4. Once the code came up for the temp sensor. Changed it. Then the fans stayed on after engine shut off. Changed the relays. Then the temp gauge acted erractically. Belive it or not, I changed the thermostat, and blead the system. Then everything worked fine. Even the mpg increased on the highway! I read about this somewhere else. It did work. Many people would tell you to change the BCM. But if its only ONE gauge, that would fix for a while then go back to problem. Remember to bleed the system. These are little stems on top of hard lines.
Below the middle mark. if you have not removed the battery and the needles poped past the stops. this willmove the temp gauge and place it at a higher reading. replace dash to correct this.
Most likely you have a faulty temperature sending unit, which is located on the front top of the engine block. Before you do this procedure, make sure there are no lose or broken wires from the sending unit, to the temperature gauge on the front dash board.
The symbol used on the Renault Scenic for a problem with the radiator is a thermometer. There should also be a temperature gauge on the dash that shows the current temperature of the radiator fluid.
Head gasket. Do block test for gases in coolant
temperature gauge not working can be caused by a bad temp sensor in engine, a bad gauge in dash, or a bad fuse
On the dash, right below the temperature gauge.
Usually engine temperature and sometimes oil temperature.
seriously? it tells you what temperature you engine coolant/antifreeze is. that is how your gauge on the dash knows what your temperature is at.
possible fuse or bulb in dash. or worse a loose wire/rat bit a wire.
I had the same problem with my 1970 mustang. First take the wire off of the Temperature sending unit (usually on the front of the block) and ground out the wire and see if the gauge goes up on the dash. if so it is just a temperature sending unit. They cost about 7 dollars.
Sender unit defective sender unit disconnected wiring problem dash to sender rear dash connector problem defective guage
The guage on the dash uses the ONE wire sensor... This is located in the block near the drivers side. Eric First check to see if you have coolant in the radiator. If there is no coolant you will not get any reading from the temperature sensor. If there is coolant then change the temperature sensor.
