My turbo 350 trans in my 1996 Chevy shifts into reverse very hard is this the result of a defective modulater valve Can you remove it without oil leaking out of the trans. Cost?

A 1996 Chevy should not have a a turbo hydramatic 350 unless it has been changed. it should not shift into reverse hard unless the idle is too high, or there is some other problem,such as a tired differential,or bad u-joint.

The oil pump is located inside the oil pan. Are you saying you have an oil pan gasket leak? I have a 97 Tahoe with the 350 and I can drop the oil pan without having to lift the engine. I am not sure if you can or not. If you can you can install a new oil pan gasket yourself......it takes time and remember what you have to unbolt so you can bolt it back up when you are done.

I have a 98 Malibu and I know from experience that antifreeze can leak from the intake gasket. It cost me $400 to fix it. At first we thought it was tranny fluid because it was pink, not that! I have Dexcool in my car and that is what was leaking from the intake. Common problem for the 3800 II; GMs` later 3800s have ALUMINUM intakes; I guess they found the problem, yet they didn`t choose to fix the other cars.....bastards...
