it is the crankshaft timing gear.
each cam gear is marked as well as the crankshaft gear
The crankshaft position sensor is located behind the timing cover and above the crankshaft gear. the timing belt my have to be removed to access the bolts on the sensor.
It's behind the timing belt gear.
no,,,,,it has a timing chain,,,,,not a belt ======================================================== And , if by any chance you have the 4.9 liter / 300 cubic inch INLINE 6 cylinder engine , it has a large gear on the end of the camshaft which meshes with a smaller gear on the end of the crankshaft , so it doesn't have a timing CHAIN or timing BELT
The crankshaft is located behind the crank gear close to the timing zone. If you decide to change your crankshaft make sure you also examine your timing belt as well as water pump.
The Ford 4.9 liter ( 300 cubic inch ) straight 6 cylinder does not use a timing belt or a timing chain . It has a gear on the end of the camshaft that meshes with a gear on the end of the crankshaft
If it is like the older 4cyl motors, you would need to take off the timing belt which drives it...not that small of a job The Cavalier 2.4L DOHC does not have a timing belt. It has a timing chain that circles inside that flat cover on the passenger side of the engine. It goes around the crankshaft gear, water pump gear, exaust gear, intake gear, in that order. Its not hard if you know how to do it,BUT you MUST know how to do it. THERE IS NO ROOM FOR MISTAKES... So ask people and study.
It is the gear that drives the camshaft. It is affixed to the end of the camshaft. It is driven by a belt or chain that goes around another gear at the crankshaft and has one or more tensioners to keep it tight.
You need to use a gear puller, as it is a press on, taper fit.
Align the timing marks on the camshaft gears to the notches on the camshaft cover, using the intake gear mark for the intake gear and the exhaust gear mark for the exhaust gear. 38. Align the mark on the crankshaft gear with the notch at the bottom of the rear timing belt cover.
No it is a gear to gear timing system.
