I was looking at my Chilton book from the 70's , at the Buick section and it shows a
diagram for a V6 engine :
firing order ( 1 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 )
the distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE , distributor at front of engine
the marked # 1 position on the distributor cap faces towards the FRONT of the engine
The engine cylinder locations are numbered :
6 - 5
4 - 3
2 - 1
-fan-
Contact the manufacturer or local distributor about why you need the serial number and how to get it.
Need to know what engine it has.
You need to look for the firing order for your specific engine. That's the order you place the plug wires in. Make sure the rotation of the distributor matches the firing order.
no comment i just need the answer where is the number one spark plug on the 307 distributor cap
make sure that the number 1 piston is at tdc on the compression stroke, then look and make sure the rotor is pointing at number 1. if not lift the distributor up and turn it towards the number 1 cylinder and put the number 1 wire on the cap were number 1 is, then wire it 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2 clockwise It probably means that the piston is between the exhaust and intake cycle and that you need to turn the crankcase 360 degrees. That should put the distributor in the right place.
auto parts store 351 ford dist. cap. your good to go.
Does not have one. Just a coil pack, top of the engine, near the wiper transmission area. Follow the ignition wires. Should not need replacement at all.
first of all you need to know what kind of engine you are working on
i need help tacking out a broken off distributor
It could be any one of the contacts. When the distributor was put in, depending on what type of motor it is, number one could be anywhere. You will need to bring number one cylinder to top dead center on the compression stroke and see where the rotor is pointing. That will be number one and set the rest of the plugs from that.
There isn't much to the HEI dist. on the older GM cars. All of the HEI's of the time used the same coil that drops into the top of the dist. under the center dust cap. With the exception of the contact points, (the number of plugs) they all used a Standard Ignition Coil Pack. The wireing was the same for v6 and v8 applications. The correct fireing order for the 231 is; 165432
