1983... As memory serves it's got a mechanical pump correct? Anyway, without knowing why your pumps are failing I can only guess as to why but the things that occure to me are an engine defect such as a bad fuel pump drive or just plain old cheap pumps. Bad drive: if there's a problem with the drive like maybe it's worn out or something, this might be tearing up your fuel pumps push arm. (is that what's happening?) Cheap pumps: Kinda self explanatory. note: many times parts coming from a dealer doesn't make them any better. They get them from the same place everybody else does and just stick there name on the box.
