On an 86 Chevy Monte with a 305 why wouldn't you be getting any spark?

If you have already checked the basics like plug wires, etc.,then the two most likely reasons on that car would be 1) bad control module in distributor 2) bad magnetic pickup in distributor.
Don't forget your coil; the engine will turn all day but won't fire with a bad onemallory or accel super coils work much better on the L69 engine than the GM coil!
