Insert the key into the ignition. Push the release/switch button at the bottom of the cylinder, and pull the cylinder out.?æ
New AnswerUsing your current key, insert it into the ignition & turn the ignition to the "On" position but not the "Start" position. Do not start the truck. Next, using a very small screwdriver (preferably a Phillips head) insert it into the hole located under the ignition key cylinder on the steering column.Pressing upwards with the small screwdriver or nail, you will press in the release button.Firmly grip the key & ignition cylinder while pressing up on this release button & remove while in the "On" position.Insert your new ignition cylinder with the key in it, into the "On" position until it snaps in place. Going in, the release button does not need to be depressed. You now have a Cylinder key, that will not match your door lock keys!Best of luck.
yes you do have to remove lock cylinder:first turn it to the off position and then under column is a hole.Take a pick or coathanger ,bend it straight to go inside hole and press against cylinder release button and pull cylinder out

Remove the cover from the strg column by removing the 7/32 screws from underneath. Pry off the ign cylinder cover...it just clips on. Put the key in acc position. On the top of the cylinder housing there is a button Depress the button and pull out the cylinder. Or there may be a small hole on top of the cylinder in which you need to put a small pick into to release the cylinder. For this type yoy must unplug the ignition switch and turn the key to crank and hold it there while you pu sh in the pick to release the cylinder. Then back to ACC while pullinjg out to get the cylinder out You now have access to the tumblers but you have to disassemble the cylinder by removing the gold coloured retainer

Do you want to replace the ignition cylinder or just install it? To remove the ignition cylinder, insert the key in the ignition and turn it to ACC. Prior to trying this, you will need to remove the whole instrument panel.Removing instrument panel:2 screws on the odometer (top side)1-2 screws near the fuse box.1 screw behind the audio deckOnce in ACC, i think there is a small clip behind the ignition cylinder, which when depressed should release the whole cylinder. Then you buy a new cylinder and slide it in, replace the pin and put the panel back in its place.HTH, SActually the instrument panel can stay in place. You must remove the bezel under and above the steering column (4 screws and 2 bolts, all Phillips head), place the key in ACC and then push the release button to remove the cylinder. The release button is located on the front of the column directly behind the combination switch unit (the thing with the wiper and turn signal arms on it) If you have an L shaped hooked tool or can improvise something you can reach the button no problem, otherwise it will be necessery to remove the steering wheel and then the combination switch to access the button.Schmooot
On the bottom left of the instrument cluster, is a button marked 0. Switch ignition on and immediately press the button. Switch ignition off. remove the sttering column shroud. put the key in and turn it to the run position. on the botton of the column where the cylinder goes in there is a button that has to be pushed. the cylinder will slide out. if the key will not turn, you will have to drill out the button.
You first need to remove the plastic trim pieces from around the steering column, then turn your key to the 'on' position and look for a small button underneath the ignition cylinder housing. If you're looking at the cylinder from the passenger's seat, it's at approximately 6 - 7 o'clock. use an awl or other pointed object to push the button in and remove your cylinder by pulling the key toward the passenger's side of the car. Installation is the opposite of removal. thats how you replace the key cylinder not the ignition switch.
