50/50
The coolant capacity of a 1990 Honda Civic is 7 quarts or just under 2 gallons. It uses a mixture of anti-freeze and water at a 50/50 ratio.
You want a 50/50 mixture. You can purchase it all ready mixed.
Drain entire system, flush with clean water and refill with proper coolant mixture.
As a very temporary emergency situation, yes. Without a proper mixture of coolant and water the water will boil at 212°F.
Use only Honda Coolant unless you want to replace the water pump which will be damaged if you use any coolant with sliicates in it. Also use distilled water not tap water. Honda sells a premixed coolant for around $5 a quart. Money well spent.
Usually 50 / 50 - antifreeze and preferably distilled water ( Ford says not to exceed 60 % antifreeze )
If there is no risk of freezing , but it will weaken the strength of the antifreeze / water coolant mixture
Not quite. Anti-freeze is the undiluted liquid that you mix with water (usually 50:50). The proper term for the mixture is "Coolant". I would say that "coolant" and "radiator fluid" are synonymous.
For the 1997 thru 2007 Honda Shadow VLX 600 use a 50-50 mixture of distilled water and ethylene glycol for maximum corrosion protection. DO NOT USE alcohol-based antifreeze or an antifreeze with self sealing propreties. Add the coolant at the reserve tank. Low coolant? Radiator plugged or restricted? Cooling fan not working? Water pump not circulating coolant? Thermostat not opening? Cooling system airbound?
This is difficult so pay attention- (1) Remove the radiator cap (2) Start filling the radiator with a proper mixture of water and coolant(Most climates us a 50/50 mixture) (3) Once the coolant reaches the radiator neck stop filling and let the coolant go down, you can speed this up by starting the engine and letting the coolant start to circulate. (4) keep doing this until the coolant level remains at or near the top of the radiator. Happy Motoring!
