it is a little "L" shaped, normally black tubed valve, plugged into the top of the valve cover. it normally just pulls straight out. it is attached to a vaccum hose, that goes to the carb. or the fuel control system.

Grasp the valve and gently remove it from the grommet in the passengers side valve cover. Remove the valve from the hose by carefully twisting it out. # Inspect the grommet for deterioration. On the 1998 Ford Explorer Sport with 4.6L V8 the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) will be located on the driver's side of the vehicle. On top of the front-left engine valve cover will be a grommet and hose assembly. In between the grommet and hose, and attached to the valve cover is the PCV valve.

just pull it out of the valve cover ( on the passenger side ,near the fire wall ) and change it for a new one , push the new one in the hole on the valve cover and reconnect the vacuum hose back on the new PVC valve and you're done .

it is a hose on the engine, close to the brake fluid. screw the hose off, then you can pull PVC out.
