on the idepaent rear suspection for the parking brake
You can't generally as the adjustment is automatic, however the rear brake calipers have things on them you can click to take up slack in the cable. If you do this and find your brake is still not working properly, the cables have stretched and need replacing.Known as I own a '97 explorer.

It could be a sticking hydraulic lifter or valves that are slightly out of adjustment.
Small pedal on the left of the brake pedal - activates the rear brake to hold vehicle
Cable is rusted, bent, or hanging for some reason. Could also be the parking brake needs adjustment. The brake is not fully releasing.
It can be connection wires, bulbs or fuses.
20 drivers side, 18 passenger side & 14 rear (if applicable)
The rear brake on that side may be locking up and getting extremely hot.
the 97 escort has a hydraulic clutch. it uses brake fluid from the same system as the brakes. i dont think there is any adjustment possible. check your brake fluid level.
