Generally, Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles use Mercon ATF. For your 1993 Mercury Villager, use Mercon IV or Mercon V automatic Transmission Fluid. The additives in IV and V supercede any and all of the additives that are in the previous Mercon ATFs that may have previously been recommended for use in your vehicle. Hope this helps!
Unsure of validity of above statements.
The Mercury Villager is NOT a Ford vehicle. While it might look like a Ford Windstar, it is actually a Nissan (Quest, I believe). Mercon Transmission fluid is not suitable for most Asian cars.
Motorcraft MERCON automatic transmission fluid for the automatic transaxle ( according to the owners manual )
Looking from the front the automatic transaxle fluid dipstick is just to the left of the engine coolant reservoir
The type of Automatic Transmission Fluid to use is engraved into the fluid level dipstick ( or indicated on the dipstick handle ) for the automatic transaxle ( transmission )
Support the transaxle and unbolt it. You may have to remove some things to get clear access to it.
On a Mercury Villager ( being a front wheel drive vehicle ) The transaxle ( transmission ) is located in the engine compartment to the drivers side of the engine
The VSS is located on the bottom of the transaxle beside the exhaust manifold.
Yes, it is automatic.
On a 2000 Mercury Sable : The automatic transaxle ( transmission ) fluid level dipstick would be near the firewall just to the drivers side of the engine ( where the transaxle is bolted to the engine )
4F20E four speed automatic.
On a 2000 Mercury Cougar : No , only the automatic transaxle ( transmission ) has a dipstick
The starter is mounted at the top of the transaxle at the back of the engine. You can see it clearly if you remove the air filter box.
Technically two. Front and rear. There are two more mounts attached to the transaxle.
