I do not really know a lot about oldsmobile, but must probably look like most cars, drain your radiator or engine block, remove your fan and fan clutch, the belts, alternator, Power Steering pump, and air conditioning compressor, do not disconnect them from their wires just put them out of the way so you can access the w.pump, now if you c your w.pump disconnect it from heater or bypass hoses, Remove the water pump attaching bolts, noting their lengths and positions for correct replacement. Remove the pump from the engine and replace the new one and repositioned the other parts...

remove the coolent tank and then use the pully to remove the serpentine belt. then you'll be able to see the water pump takes about half an hour tops.

It depends on the motor..if you have overhead cam...then YES. The timing belt has to be removed when the water pump is changed and the cam sprockets have to be set to correct timing when the belt is replaced.
