Unless common practice has changed, you should have to press the lower ball-joint down through the bottom of the lower A-arm to remove the joint.
How do you get the lower ball joint out of the axcel hub assmb on a 2005 4x4 f150. the axcel appears to be in the way and the ball joint hits it when trying to remove. any help out there
Remove the tire and wheel from your 1992 Chevrolet S 10 Blazer. Removing the brake assembly and the brake rotor will give you more room to work. Remove the ball joint nut. Pound the ball joint out with a hammer. Reverse the process to install the new ball joint.
have a trusted shop do this for you. I've spent $400+ on tools alone to do this job. 4x4 socket, ball joint press, pickle fork, knowledge of 4wd hubs.
The ball joints can be replaced by removing the wheel. Remove the rotor and brakes. Pound the old ball joint out. Insert the new ball joint with a ball joint compressor.
if it is original the upper ball joint is riveted in, it will need to be chisel out,there are four rivets and then the nut that holds it to the control arm.new ball joint will come with bolts and nuts

The ball joint should be permanently in the tie rod end. If it is bad, you have to replace the entire tie rod end.
Ball Joint Replacement: I used the rental tool to press out the old ball joint and press in the new one. When pressing out the old ball joint the key is to properly set up the press, tighten the screw on the press, then give the screw a few good solid blows to shock the old ball joint. Once I did this the old ball joint pressed out almost effortlessly. Installation of the new ball joint was a breeze. The only comment is be extremely careful not to damage the axle boot seals. Have wire on hand to tie the spindle assembly and axle for support to prevent damage to the brake hoses and ABS system.
