In most cases, it is not necessary to remove the oil pan to clean it,especially with your low milage. I suggest you warm the engine completely, and then change the oil and filter. I like Castrol, because it has excellent detergent qualities, and outstanding lubrication properties. Keep an eye on your oil, certainly as to level, but also how clean it stays. Perhaps a couple of short road trips will give you an idea how clean your engine is inside. I like to change oil every 90 days or 2000 miles whichever comes first. smoky2

At 42,000 miles there is no need at all to drop the pan and clean the engine. If the oil had never been changed and that is your concern then I would recommend going to bgfindashop.com. There you can find a repair shop in your area that can do a flush using their chemicals. I have used them and they do an excellent job.
