If she is not your friend then you shouldn't really have to buy her a present. But if she has invited you to a party, then of course you will have to get her a gift. You should do whatever feels right to you; if you feel that it would be better to get it then you should, if you don't then don't. Don't let others opinions be your own.
I like this persons answer, I think they are completely right! If your invited to a party then definitly get them a gift! If it is another special occasion like Christmas and they got you something get them something small in return just make sure they don't know that you didn't get them something originally!

What makes a good friends?
Being able to trust one another is one of the many characteristics that make a good friend. A good friend is someone who is always there for you in times of need and just to hang out with. I hate people who pretend to be your friend and just ditch you because he/she finds out he/she does not like you or just befriends you to get something. I think a friend should be nice, funny, comforting and someone who's just basically fun to be around, (if it's a boy, sporty or loves computer games) A friend should be someone who would stick beside you, help you out and defend you against other people that are being mean to you. Someone you know you can absolutely trust with secrets and taking care of stuff for you. But getting that perfect friend would probably be 1/100 but you never know. If a friend is pissed off at you, offer a present or just try saying sorry. You really shouldn't have to offer a present to a friend to make them forgive you. A friend should be forgiving no matter what. Also, a good friend should be supportive. If you play a sport or something and all your friend can say about it is, "I hate that sport" you might want to re-think this friendship.
